WEST MERSEA
A small country town famous for its native oysters, West Mersea has good shopping facilities, including an abundance of fresh fish caught by the local fishing fleet. Boasting some of the best sailing and watersports on the East Coast, West Mersea is a beautiful place to visit.
DEDHAM & FLATFORD
Constable Country, Dedham and Flatford have some of the most attractive countryside in the country. Hire a boat at Dedham and row the meandering river Stour to Flatford, a wonderful way to spend a summers afternoon.

NATURE RESERVES
The area is home to a wealth of nature reserves both inland and saltmarsh. Fingringhoe Conservation Centre is set in 125 acres of woodland, with lakes, outstanding views and walks. You will also find excellent walks around the Roman river valley at Layer.
COLCHESTER
Colchester is England’s oldest recorded town and has a wealth of interesting things to do and see. Excellent shops are surrounded by historic buildings including a Norman Castle. A day out at the zoo, or a visit to the Mercury Theatre are recommended.

Sailing, Horse Riding, Green and Indoor Bowls, Sea & Freshwater Fishing, water-skiing and Tennis. The M.I.C.A. Centre offers Squash, a Fitness Room and Badminton. Both West Mersea Yacht Club & Dabchicks Sailing Club welcome new members.
CLACTON AREA
Easily accessible from Mersea Island by bus or train from Colchester or by road. Clacton, Walton and Jaywick offer all the traditional seaside entertainment including Piers, Amusements, Shows and extensive sandy beaches.
